One of the more powerful compounds in green tea is the antioxidant Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG), which has been studied to treat various diseases and may be one of the main reasons green tea has such powerful medicinal properties.

Green tea does more than just keep you awake, it can also make you smarter. The key active ingredient is caffeine, which is a known stimulant.
It doesn’t contain as much as coffee, but enough to produce a response without causing the “jittery” effects associated with too much caffeine. What caffeine does in the brain is to block an inhibitory neurotransmitter called Adenosine. This way, it actually increases the firing of neurons and the concentration of neurotransmitters like dopamine and norepinephrine (34).
Caffeine has been intensively studied before and consistently leads to improvements in various aspects of brain function, including improved mood, vigilance, reaction time and memory (5). However… green tea contains more than just caffeine. It also has the amino acid L-theanine, which is able to cross the blood-brain barrier (6).
L-theanine increases the activity of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA, which has anti-anxiety effects. It also increases dopamine and the production of alpha waves in the brain (789).
Studies show that caffeine and L-theanine can have synergistic effects. Thecombination of the two is particularly potent at improving brain function (1011).
Because of the L-theanine and the smaller dose of caffeine, green tea can give you a much milder and different kind of “buzz” than coffee. Many people report having more stable energy and being much more productive when they drink green tea, compared to coffee.

However, I’d like to point out that some studies on green tea don’t show any increase in metabolism, so the effects may depend on the individual (16).

Caffeine itself has also been shown to improve physical performance by mobilizing fatty acids from the fat tissues and making them available for use as energy (1718). In two separate review studies, caffeine has been shown to increase physical performance by 11-12%, on average (1920).
Bottom Line: Green tea has been shown to boost the metabolic rate and increase fat burning in the short term, although not all studies agree.

4. Antioxidants in Green Tea May Lower Your Risk of Various Types of Cancer

Cancer is caused by uncontrolled growth of cells. It is one of the world’s leading causes of death. It is well known that oxidative damage contributes to the development of cancer and that antioxidants can have a protective effect (21).
Green tea is an excellent source of powerful antioxidants, so it makes perfect sense that it could reduce your risk of cancer, which it appears to do:

Multiple other observational studies show that green tea drinkers are significantly less likely to get various types of cancer (252627). It is important to keep in mind that it may be a bad idea to put milk in your tea, because it can reduce the antioxidant value (28).

One study in Japanese individuals found that those who drank the most green tea had a 42% lower risk of developing type II diabetes (46). According to a review of 7 studies with a total of 286,701 individuals, green tea drinkers had an 18% lower risk of becoming diabetic (47).
Bottom Line: Some controlled trials show that green tea can cause mild reductions in blood sugar levels. It may also lower the risk of developing type II diabetes in the long term.

8. Green Tea May Reduce Your Risk of Cardiovascular Disease

Cardiovascular diseases, including heart disease and stroke, are the biggest causes of death in the world (48). Studies show that green tea can improve some of the main risk factors for these diseases.
This includes total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides (49). Green tea also dramatically increases the antioxidant capability of the blood, which protects the LDL cholesterol particles from oxidation, which is one part of the pathway towards heart disease (505152).
Given the beneficial effects on risk factors, it is not surprising to see that green tea drinkers have up to a 31% lower risk of cardiovascular disease (535455).
Bottom Line: Green tea has been shown to lower total and LDL cholesterol, as well as protect the LDL particles from oxidation. Observational studies show that green tea drinkers have a lower risk of cardiovascular disease.

9. Green Tea Can Help You Lose Weight and Lower Your Risk of Becoming Obese

Given that green tea can boost the metabolic rate in the short term, it makes sense that it could help you lose weight. Several studies show that green tea leads to decreases in body fat, especially in the abdominal area (565758).
One of these studies was a randomized controlled trial in 240 men and women that went on for 12 weeks. In this study, the green tea group had significant decreases in body fat percentage, body weight, waist circumference and abdominal fat (59).
However, some studies don’t show a statistically significant increases in weight loss with green tea, so this needs to be taken with a grain of salt (60).
Bottom Line: Some studies show that green tea leads to increased weight loss. It is particularly effective at reducing the dangerous abdominal fat.

10. Green Tea May Decrease Your Risk of Dying and Help You Live Longer

Of course, we all have to die eventually. That is inevitable. However, given that green tea drinkers are at a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer, it makes sense that it could help you live longer.
In a study of 40,530 Japanese adults, those who drank the most green tea (5 or more cups per day) were significantly less likely to die during an 11 year period (61):
  • Death of all causes: 23% lower in women, 12% lower in men.
  • Death from heart disease: 31% lower in women, 22% lower in men.
  • Death from stroke: 42% lower in women, 35% lower in men.
Another study in 14,001 elderly Japanese individuals aged 65-84 years found that those who drank the most green tea were 76% less likely to die during the 6 year study period (62).

Yesterday, State’s Attorney Stephen Sedensky released the long-awaited but not-a-full report* of the State of Connecticut’s investigation into the Sandy Hook massacre of December 14, 2012, wherein alleged shooter Adam Lanza killed 20 children and 6 adults in Sandy Hook Elementary School, after first shooting his 52-year-old mother Nancy 4 times in her face in their home at 36 Yogananda Street, Newtown, Connecticut .
Nancy Lanza had just returned from a 3-day “mini break” to Bretton Woods in New Hampshire, wherein she stayed at the Omni Mount Washington Resort, checking out at 12:27 pm on December 13. Nancy had left Adam alone in their $1.4 million mansion in Newtown, CT. Reportedly, these “mini-breaks” were something Nancy often took.

The Lanza family home at 36 Yogananda St., with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms on 2.19 acres. Curiously, the real estate website Zillow says the house is not for sale. Assuming Adam’s brother, Ryan, inherited Nancy’s estate (since she is divorced), why would Ryan hang onto the house?
The state attorney’s report details every step Lanza allegedly took as he “shot his way” into the school building, as well as evidence seized from his possessions, including news about school shootings, a school shooting video game, and materials on pedophilia and rights of pedophiles. The report describes Lanza as having Asperger Syndrome: a type of autism characterized by restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests; significant difficulties in social interaction and nonverbal communication; and reduced empathy. But the report offers no motive for his alleged killings.

6 Top Inflammatory Foods To Avoid And The Best Foods To Reduce Inflammation

There has been a lot of talk about the dangers of and damage caused in the body by inflammation.  Here is a compilation of some of the top foods to avoid and also to eat to keep inflammation at bay.
 
Today we know that inflammation is at the root of many major diseases. Cancer is perpetuated by inflammation — tumors grow larger as the inflammatory process takes hold. Likewise, the swelling and pain of arthritis, fibromyalgia, even diabetes and obesity have been linked with chronic inflammation in the body. Anti-inflammatory diets are important, as a diet filled with foods that curb inflammation can alleviate symptoms and often reverse disease. Some anti-inflammatory foods include dark leafy greens, purple grapes, nuts, seeds and colorful veggies.
 
1. White flour baked goods
“White baked goods make the top of the list because white flour becomes white sugar right in your mouth,” says Julie Daniluk, RHN, author of “Meals that Heal Inflammation.” The starches break into sugars immediately; that’s why it raises your blood sugar so fast. When your blood sugar spikes, you end up with inflammation. What’s more, white flour carries a double whammy because of the gluten content. Many people have a difficult time digesting gluten and inflammation results. “Quite a lot of the population is walking around inflamed,” says Daniluk. To replace white flour goods, try brown rice, amaranth, quinoa and teff, a grain from Africa that’s gaining popularity in gluten-free circles.
 
2. French fries/potato chips
Are French fries evil? The problem is that frying foods in oil at extremely high temperatures, enough to put a crispy edge on a fry, creates a neurotoxin chemical called acrylamide, which causes terrible inflammation. The only way to resolve that problem is to bake at lower temperatures. Same for potato chips. To avoid, bake fries in the oven and look for baked chips that don’t contain oil. Organic baked corn chips are a great substitute if it’s a crunch you’re after.
 
3. Grilled sausages
The biggest problem with sausages, and you may as well include bacon here, is the nitrates they contain. We’ve heard of nitrates for years; it’s a cancer-causing chemical that causes inflammation. Worse, we cook animal fats at high temps on the griddle and those black marks that crop up from overcooking, called creosote, are carcinogenic as well. Vitamin C can protect you from nitrates, so if you do enjoy these foods occasionally, Daniluk says to eat an orange alongside them. Either avoid them, bake instead of fry or grill, and try switching to nitrate-free bacon.
 
4. Cola
The caramel coloring in brown cola contains a chemical that has been banned in other countries but not in America. It’s called 4-methylimidazole or 4-MI, is derived from ammonia and has been shown to cause cancer in lab animals. Daniluk thinks it should be avoided even though safety levels for humans have not been established. Plus, cola carries a double dose of inflammation as there are nine teaspoons of sugar in one regular 12-ounce can. Sugar spikes insulin and brings on chronic inflammation. “Anything that causes cancer is inflammatory, too, since cancer is the most inflammatory disease of all; anything that increases your risk of cancer sets you up for inflammation.”
 
5. Microwave popcorn
The artificial butter flavoring in most popcorn has been linked to serious inflammation. Daniluk says it’s hard on both the lungs and liver, and her concern is that if we know the fumes from the steaming bag contain a lung irritant, imagine what it does to your digestive system. It also contains fats from the highly processed partially hydrogenated oils being cooked at high temperature, and these transfats are also inflammatory. She suggests old-fashioned air popping.
 
If you’re not opposed to using a microwave, try putting 4 tablespoons of popcorn kernels in a brown paper lunch bag and fold the top over tightly. Microwave for two minutes or until popping slows. Sprinkle with Parmesan and rosemary.
 
6. Artificially dyed candy
Artificial dyes are made from petroleum and gasoline byproducts and may cause disruption within body chemistry and hormone function, which could lead to inflammation. Five food colorings remain in use in the United States — though with much controversy. Some researchers think they are responsible for everything from ADHD to migraines and Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. Naturally colored and flavored gummies, lollipops and gums are available at many grocery stores. Naturally dyed candies are made from beets and carrots. Look for candy labels that say “contains no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.”

3. Extra Virgin Olive Oil: The secret to longevity in Mediterranean culture, this oil provides a healthy dose of fats that fights inflammation, can help lower risks of asthma and arthritis, as well as protect the heart and blood vessels.

A Warning From Anonymous – 9/11 Style Attack in LA in May Be Imminent - False Flag

The world renowned hacker activist group “Anonymous” issued one of their civic-minded warnings yesterday on behalf of the people of Los Angeles. Anonymous has indicated that they have information which leads them to believe that a false flag event similar to the twin tower attacks in New York is in the works for the Citi Bank building. The chief tenant of that building at this time is Freddie Mac.

They are specific in their information, with the attack expected on Friday, November 15th. They indicated that their information alerted them to SWAT drills being conducted in the downtown area in a manner different from other drills which have been recently carried out. They did not specify in what way they were different.

They also stated that the insurance coverage for the building has been dropped with the exception of those portions of coverage which provide for special conditions, physical damage, and coverages related to terrorism. Those coverages remain in effect, according to Anonymous’ sources. They identify the certificate holder for the insurance Hines Vaf.

In addition to the Citi Bank building, the adjacent US Bank building is also named as a possible target in the Anonymous warning. They recommend that people avoid the buildings in particular this Friday, but the window for a possible terror event appears to be for several days. The buildings are located at the intersection of South Flower and West Fifth St. in Los Angeles.

Anonymous does not claim to have concrete proof of plans to destroy the building(s), but they found enough similarities between this possible event and the suspicious circumstances surrounding the attacks of September 11th that they chose to err on the side of caution by coming forward with the information at this time.

Just over five months ago, extensive terror drills were held in Los Angeles as part of the 2013 National Homeland Security Conference. It is a well-documented fact that there are invariably terror drills of a very similar nature conducted prior to virtually every suspected false flag operation from 9/11 and Oklahoma City all the way up to the recent LAX TSA incident. The information provided to Anonymous also references recent, less publicized drills.

This, in addition to the changes in the insurance coverage, gave rise to the reasonable suspicion that something reprehensible may be in the works.

Anonymous closed their statement with a warning to potential perpetrators, “We do not forgive, we do not forget. Expect to be held accountable for your actions if you follow through with your sinister agenda. We will not tolerate your wicked greed in pursuit of more wealth and restructure. We are Anonymous.  We do not forgive.  We do not forget.  Expect us.”

Barack Obama High School Classmate Reveals That He Was A Well Known Homosexual (VIDEO & AUDIO)

It took awhile, but now childhood friends of president Barack Obama are now coming forward to reveal a past that included massive cocaine use, rampant homosexuality and uncontrollable lying. At the very least, the events related to Obamacare in the past 2 weeks show beyond question is affinity for relentless, pathological lying.

High school classmate and childhood friend, Maria Pope, has given an interview where she blows the lid of of Barry Soetoro’s wicked past. She reveals that it was open for all to see back then that he spent most of his time with the gay community, and engaging in homosexual acts with rich Hawiian businessmen for drugs and money. Miss Pope said that his use of cocaine and crack were common knowledge. Perhaps now you see why he spent so much money to seal and cover up his records from his school days. But even all that money and secrecy has not prevented the truth from coming out.
All of Obama’s childhood friends knew that he was born and raised in Indonesia, it was never a question. Even throughout his murky college years, everyone he came in contact with knew he was born in Indonesia.

How to Erase Yourself From the Internet

If your growing weariness of being constantly tethered to the internet has become overwhelming, it might be time to scrub yourself from the social media sphere altogether. Here's how you can become a ghost on the Internet, by tracking down and eliminating your digital past.

The Big Four

Before you go hunting down your old MySpace and Yahoo Fantasy Sports accounts, you should probably go ahead and nix your existence from the four largest social media sites on the planet—Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and LinkedIn—seeing as how they have the greatest reach and the most information on you. Luckily, each service makes the self-destruct process fairly straightforward.

How to Erase Yourself From the Internet

Facebook

Facebook makes it very obvious how to deactivate your account; it's under Account Settings > Security > Deactivate your account. Don't be fooled! Deactivation isn't deletion, and when you chose this option, Facebook holds on to all your bits and pieces juuuuussssssst in case you change your mind.
To truly nuke your account, you need to head to the Delete My Account page and click the big blue button. That's it, you're officially off Facebook. The process might take up to a fortnight to complete since the system has to scan the entirety of itself making sure all data related to you—every tagged picture, like, and mention—but when it's gone, it's all gone. The process is irreversible.
Don't worry, though; if you still want that treasure trove of pictures and updates living on your hard drive, you can download the whole shebang by going to Account Settings > General > Download a copy of your Facebook Data > Start My Archive.

Twitter

Unlike on Facebook, on Twitter deactivate means delete. And it's easy! Go to Account Settings > Deactivate my account > Okay, fine, deactivate account. Then just enter your password and you're good to go.
Well, almost, anyway. Twitter also holds onto your info in case you have quitter's remorse, so it'll still stick around on the company's servers for 30 days. After that, though, you're all clear for a RTless life.

Another easy one. Head to the upper right hand corner of the page, and select Privacy & Settings from the drop-down menu. From there, head to Account > Close Your Account. Answer a quick question about why you're leaving (as if you need a reason!), verify your account one more time, and then revel in the fact that you'll never get LinkedIn spam again.
It'll take a while for all professional network traces of you to leave Google and other search engines, but you'll be purged before long.

There's a decent chance you're a Google+ member without even realizing it—which makes leaving all the more compelling. It's also the most convoluted process of the four.
The important thing here is to delete your Google+ information and account without nuking your Google account (assuming you're a Gmail and Gcal user).
To get rid of just your public information, first sign into Google+ if you somehow aren't already. Click your name and/or email address in the upper right hand corner, and go to Account Management > Delete profile and remove related Google+ features > Delete Google+ content. That'll take care of profile, your Circles, your +1s, etc.
To get rid of your entire Google+ account, meanwhile, repeat the above process, but select Delete your entire Google profile. This sounds scary! It's not. You'll still be able to use Gmail, your Google Drive, and so on. It will, however, totally vanish your Google+ presence, and will make for some annoyances if you've coupled it with other Google accounts (most commonly YouTube).
If you really want to go all the way with this and delete the entirety of your Google account (mail, calendar, etc). To do that, go to to your Google Account homepage, click Close account and delete all services and info associated with it, and kiss Gmail and every other Google-thing you love goodbye.

Cleaning Up the Scraps

Once you've taken care of the four elephants in the room, it's time to go after your smaller and older accounts. But unless you've been keeping meticulous notes on every single forum board and half-baked social site you've ever joined, you're going to need to spend a fair amount of time tracking them all down.
Luckily, there are tools for that.
  • Account Killer maintain massive database of sites—more than 500 in all, from Activision to NuddistConnect.com to Zattoo—and can provide direct links to each one's deletion page.
  • Just Delete Me offers a similar service, as well as a handy Chrome Extension that will light up whenever you're on a site that JDM recognizes and will link you directly to the site's account deletion page.
  • Knowem, meanwhile, finds sites that you may have forgotten about entirely by doing a username search on more that 500 popular social sites.
